We must unite! Iranian Americans in Utah protest oppression in Iran

Iranian American protestors gathered at the Utah State Capitol to commemorate the first anniversary of Masa Jina Amini’s death and denounce the Islamic Republic’s violence against Iranian protestors. Amini’s tragic death sparked a year-long protest movement in Iran, resulting in thousands of fatalities and detentions. The demonstrators called on the U.S. government to take action against Iran and sought local support for the Iranian protestors.

They emphasized that the movement extends beyond Iranian women’s rights, resonating as a global cause. The protest also highlighted the Islamic Republic’s impact beyond Iran’s borders, particularly in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Critics called for more meaningful U.S. engagement and support for the cause of freedom and democracy worldwide, with a focus on Iranians in the diaspora playing a pivotal role in advocating for change.
